This season will be a little different from the last two. For starters, don’t expect the Miss Kentucky Basketball crown to hail from the Sixth Region. Although the crown could stay in Louisville with Christian Academy and University of Louisville recruit Antonita Slaughter being the front-runner, look for some stiff competition from Antonita’s AAU teammate Samantha Drake from Nelson County. Drake is still trying to recover from a past injury, so don’t expect great results until January. The Lexington area may have something to say about who wins the coveted award. Paul Dunbar’s Ebony Rowe, whose headed to Middle Tennessee and Lexington Christian’s Sara Beth Barnett , a University of Kentucky signee, have had impressive high school careers.
The big question is who will make it to Diddle Arena in March and take home the state championship? My early prediction is subject to change come late February, but I am going out on a limb and picking the Valkaries of Sacred Heart. They had a great Summer and their coach knows what it takes to make it happen. Something is telling me that it is going to be the year for the Valkaries. Coach Donna Moir has several State Titles during this decade and that could be a factor this season.
