Boys Pre-Season PICKS

Boys Pre-Season PICKS

Covington Holmes has established itself not only statewide, but the Northern Kentucky squad is getting some national recognition as well.  It is obvious that Holmes is the pre-season favorite to win back-to-back state titles.  Holmes’ past success the last two years has landed them in ESPN’s Fab 50 at No. 26 in the nation.  Let the hype not stop there because Kentucky has another Fab 50 ranked team in Scott County.  Scott County is loaded with several Division 1 caliber players and the word on the street is that there may be more talent on the way if some transfers get the necessary approval.

Make no bones about it that high school basketball in Kentucky has been down for the last couple of years, but with the young talent that has resurrected throughout the State, look for college coaches to be swarming the Bluegrass over the next couple of years.  I look for Louisville Eastern, J-Town, Ballard, or Louisville Trinity to get out of the 7th Region and make a  surprise run for the State Title.  PRP and Central will battle it out in the 6th Region and could be the dark horse similar to Central’s run in last year’s final.

BGI's TOP 10 TEAMS

1. Covington Holmes; 2. Louisville Eastern; 3. Warren Central; 4. Jeffersontown; 5. Shelby Valley; 6. Louisville Ballard; 7. Clark County

8. Christian County; 9. Lexington Catholic; 10. Mason County;  DARK HORSES: Bowling Green and PRP
